After a traffic dip, I decided to stop doing ad hoc fixes and set up a monthly routine. Before that, I only looked at technical issues when something visibly broke.

I started with a set of technical SEO tools and run through redirects, robots rules, sitemap status, and broken links in that order. The first pass took about two hours, but now it’s closer to thirty minutes. Two orphaned redirects and a stale sitemap entry turned up right away.

What’s your monthly technical checklist? I’m debating adding log file review, but that feels like overkill for a site with a few hundred pages. Does anyone use a simple template to track what they checked each month?
